  2. VISION OF FLIGHT SIMULATION AND REX FOR 2017

    By Tom_Weiss, 03/20/2017

    Hello Everyone –
We are very excited for what looks to be a banner year in the simulation industry. It is our goal to provide the best possible products for all current and future platforms. With 2017 underway, the community is anticipating new and/or improved flight simulator platforms to be released from Dovetail, Lockheed Martin, AeroFly, and Laminar Research.
First we would like to reflect briefly on 2016. Worldwide Airports HD was our signature release in late November. We are very pleased with the acceptance of this product within the flight simulator community. In addition, we look forward to continually enhancing this product by adding new features. Presently, we are working on 10 additional 3D airport vehicles as well as KDCA – Reagan National as the next enhanced airport pack. We plan to add additional features to the product over the next several months. The vision for our company for 2017 can be summed up in two words: improve and expand.
In improvement, we have two areas of focus:
    1.    Improved customer care. We envision customer care more than just product support, but to also include product pricing.

    a.   Product Support: We will be improving and expanding this area during 2017, and will offer a full featured three-tier support system:
                                          i. Tier 1 support is for basic needs and will be provided through our current support forum.
ii. Tier 2 support is for specific needs with a direct connect to our developers.
iii. Tier 3 support involves a dedicated one-on-one online session. Here, a customer care tech will utilize our online session software to assists our customers to setup, trouble-shoot, and advise on specific needs with a hands-on approach.

    b.   Product Pricing: During 2016 we have noticed a change in the worldwide market place. Our goal has never been one of greed, rather a reasonable pricing structure. In 2016 we implemented an automatic price cut of 30% on most of our products. We also implemented an aggressive customer referral program at our store. Customers that refer up to 3 new customers receive 30% off their next purchase as well as the new customer they refer. We will continue to look at new ways to provide top quality products at reasonable and affordable pricing.

    2.    Improved product support. With many of our customers having multiple REX products we recognize that it can become quite difficult to support and maintain. Our plan is to centralize the maintenance of these products through one hub. REX AXIS will be a central hub where customers can control and maintain their REX products. A user utilizing REX AXIS will be able to download the latest full versions as well as any updates to a product. In addition, customers will be able to have live real-time contact with the REX support staff and other REX customers via REX AXIS. In addition to REX Axis, all future products will include a logging system to alert the developers of potential issues. A user will be able to submit these logs and they will be immediately forwarded to our developers for review. This will allow our developers to provide more timely patches for improved products.

In regards to the area of expansion, we have two areas of focus:
    1.    Expand our product line. This represents several things: first, it means to continually expand our current products on the market.  Secondly, it means to add new products to the market.

    a.   Support for current products: We pride ourselves on keeping support of past products. During 2016 we saw the release of public betas of Service Pack 4 for REX Essential and OverDrive, improvements of the mapping features of REX FS2004 OverDrive, and enhancements to REX4 Texture Direct and Soft Clouds. With the upcoming release of Sky Force 3D, we will be planning improvements to REX Essentials, REX Texture Direct and Soft Clouds to take advantage of all the features that Sky Force 3D provides.

    b.   Adding new products: Our company has been one that always looks to the future and how it can improve what it has done in the past. We have a unique and strong line of new products on the horizon for 2017.
                                          i. Sky Force 3D – A new approach to the environmental representation of weather features within FSX and P3D.
ii. Worldwide Airport Enhancement Packs – New add-on texture packs for REX Worldwide Airports HD, designed specifically for the 30+ custom airports within FSX and P3D.
iii. SIMAIR – A massive multiplayer experience that brings the realism of management, an air carrier and pilot in one place.
iv. REX AXIS – A new product management tool, that centralizes all REX products and maintenance into one package.

    2.    Expand staff, platforms, partners, and areas of development. We have been looking for new areas to expand.

    a.   Additional Staff - Over the next several months we will be adding additional staff to handle key areas of development. This will include areas such as 3D modelling, texture artists, programmers, as well as support staff.

    b.   Additional Platforms – As mentioned before we anticipate three new flight simulator platforms to be released this year.  We are evaluating each one for the potential of possible tools/utilities to offer enhancements of each product line.

    c.   Additional Partnerships – We recognize that there are some great companies out there that have the same vision as ours.  In 2017, we are looking forward to expanding and improving our partnerships with these companies with a goal to offer the best possible products for our community.

    d.   Additional Areas of Development – We have two companies in one. While REX Simulations is our core business, REX Game Studios has been making strides in the arena of independent “indie” game development. We are excited about the reception we have received with Storm Quest Game. Though this project has been on hold for a while, over the past year there have been huge advancements in design and development. We are excited about the opportunities for the future.

This is the heartbeat of our company. We would like to thank all of our customers for their continued dedication and support. We look forward to an exciting 2017 and beyond with all of you.
    Sincerely,
    Reed Stough and Tim Fuchs
    Managing Partners

  3. VRS Announces GeoPack 15m IFR Scenery Series

    By Tom_Weiss, 03/10/2017

VRS' GeoPack is a new series of 15 meter resolution IFR (mid to high altitude) pan-sharpened, color balanced satellite imagery designed to cover prolific military theaters of conflict throughout the world. GeoPack is the only scenery currently available for FSX/P3D that covers vast areas of the Middle-East (followed by other areas, including the Korean Peninsula) at this resolution and imaging consistency. Each package also features custom night lighting meticulously crafted by VRS scenery specialist Norman Gibson.
Ideal for Military Ops: GeoPack is perfectly suited to provide maximum performance and visual quality at medium (10K) to high (30K+) altitude over the widest possible range for fast-movers. This scenery is not designed to provide low altitude local (VFR) coverage. VFR scenery can provide higher quality visuals at low altitude, but these are ill-suited to military aircraft which typically travel at faster speeds and higher altitudes than General aviation (GA) or rotorcraft. GeoPack provides "real as it gets" visuals for both solo and multiplayer flight exercises over some of the most historical and currently active military combat zones in the world.

Volume I: Iraq/Kuwait will be the first package available, and covers the countries of Iraq and Kuwait with partial coverage of the Syrian, Jordanian and Saudi border regions as shown here in pink. Total coverage for Vol I (Iraq/Kuwait) is 862,725 km2. Other Middle-Eastern regions, coming soon in Vol II, will cover areas including Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Palestine and the remainder of Syria.
GeoPack Volume I is licensed as a universal FSX/P3D package (10.2GB).
For a limited time, use priority code BAGHDAD at checkout for $5 off (regularly $24.95)!  Note that we cannot give retroactive discounts. If you snooze you lose!
Use priority code BAGHDAD at checkout for $5 off!
Custom night lighting by VRS scenery specialist Norman Gibson
Almost 1 million km2 med/high altitude coverage with meticulously detailed coastlines
Ideal for simulating Middle Eastern combat scenarios
Works with P3D AND FSX (universal installer), and TacPack is not required

  4. TacPack for P3Dv3.4 hotfix 3

    By Tom_Weiss, 02/22/2017

    TacPack Update 1.4.3.4 (2/21/17)
Note: if you also own the Superbug, you should update that SECOND, after the TacPack

An official update (1.4.3.4) is now available for your version of the TacPack (and Superbug) with support for P3D v3.4 Hotfix 3 (3.4.22.19868) as well as other fixes. Note that if your license is for the FSX version of the Superbug, it will (as always) not function under P3D without a dedicated P3D license and vice versa. However you are still urged to upgrade since other minor issues may have been addressed for both platforms, and support eligibility requires that you be on the latest version.

    DOWNLOADING
This update is available from your VRS Customer Page.
    https://secure.softwarekey.com/solo/customers
In order to download from your customer page, you will need your product license ID and customer password (found in your sales invoice) along with a current maintenance subscription (1 year from the original date of purchase or renewal). If your maintenance period has expired, you may purchase an extension for a nominal fee from your customer page. Updates may also be acquired from the VRS support forums (registration required) at no cost, however we request that you read this article

  5. Prepar3D v4 64bit release soon

    By Tom_Weiss, 02/22/2017

Development is complete and beta testing has been underway for some time, v4 is real.
According to rumor release of v4 could take place as early as this Friday, February 24th.
Moving to 64bit is a major update - and this release will therefore not be free, it is important to stress that moving to a 64bit platform may bring many backward compatibility problems with FSX & P3D v1, v2 and v3 add ons.
We know that Orbx and Aerosoft tested v4 and Orbx officially announced that it is sure that its add ons will not have any issues with v4 and confirmed that they will update them for free :

  6. JustFlight Hunter F.6/FGA.9 released

    By Tom_Weiss, 02/16/2017

This FSX/P3D Hunter collection features the F.6 and the definitive FGA.9 ground attack fighter variant, modelled in great detail and each with their own Virtual Cockpit representative of the type as operated by the RAF.

Features include 13 high quality paint schemes, authentic sounds, multiple detailed animations, a deployable braking parachute on the FGA.9, retractable reticle gunsight, 3D gauges and accurately modelled electrical, hydraulic and fuel systems.
The saying "If it looks right, it’ll fly right” certainly applies to the Hunter, with its graceful flowing lines and curves. The Hunter, which entered RAF service as an interceptor and was the first jet-engined aircraft designed by Hawker, was sold to air forces around the world, all of which were impressed by its outstanding performance and manoeuvrability. First flown in 1951, the last aircraft in military service only retired in 2014!

The Just Flight Hunter features the F.6 and the definitive machine, the FGA.9, modelled in great detail with multiple animations including the correct landing gear sequence, flap actions, airbrake, canopy and a realistic animated pilot. The detailed engine fan is visible through the intake mouths and the models include other highly detailed areas such as flap recesses and gear wells. Details such as boarding steps, wheel chocks, pre-flight flags, and Ground Power Unit are included.
There are two highly detailed virtual cockpits, one for the F.6 and the other for the FGA.9.
13 liveries are included, covering both British and overseas air forces.

Take a look at Greg McKenzie's cockpit panorama for a full 3D tour of the Hunter cockpit!

  15. TFDi Design 717 Released

    By Tom_Weiss, 12/23/2016

It is with great excitement, pride, and some nerves, that we announce the release of the TFDi Design 717. It is now available for purchase here.
    https://tfdidesign.com/717.php
We started this journey four years ago. Throughout those years, we’ve made many friends, worked with developers, pilots, testers, dedicated simmers, and combinations of all four. We’ve learned more than we had ever anticipated and it has been an incredible journey. As I hinted at yesterday, we are now beginning a new journey with our customers and supporters. We have taken great pride in giving the community that supports and purchases our products a voice. We’ve taken pride in, despite the circumstances, staying humble and part of the community.
On that note, we want to take the opportunity to work with you on the 717 from here forward. There are plenty of areas we’d like to improve and features left to add, and there are things we can’t do alone. We want to hear your thoughts and feelings on the product – new features, fixes, and more are possible quickly and easily and we have every intention of delivering them. We want to make the 717 a product like no other, beyond simply correctly modeling the aircraft.
We look forward to hearing from you and continuing to expand and improve the product you’ve waited so long for. On behalf of myself, Brandon Filer, Joshua Mendoza, Martyn Becker, and Brandon Olivo to the developers, testers, pilots, and enthusiasts that have helped us along the way, thank you.
    See you in the skies

  16. IL-2 Sturmovik news

    By Tom_Weiss, 12/22/2016

A Ton of Good News for IL-2 Sturmovik Pilots
    Dear Pilots,
we have a ton of good news for you this time!
First of all, this week saw our Sturmovik engine received a humongous update bringing it to version 2.006. The full list of changes and additions is available here. This is the biggest and most important update to the sim so far!
Our new DirectX 11 renderer and other performance optimizations improved performance to such an extent you may see a two or three-fold increase in framerate during complex scenes!
Early Access for Battle of Kuban just started with the Bf-109 G-4 being made available to those who Pre-Ordered Battle of Kuban. From now on, Battle of Kuban owners will receive regular updates that will gradually add more BOK content as it gets ready.

The long awaited flyable Ju-52/3m g4e has been released as well. This aircraft brings many new gameplay features and three new mission types to the current campaign – paratrooper drop, cargo parachute drop and cargo delivery. They can be used in complex multiplayer missions as well.

The first official scripted campaign made by Alexander -BlackSix- Timoshokov, "Ten Days of Autumn", is now available. This historical campaign recreates the events of one German squadron during the Battle of Moscow. Our new Scripted Campaign mode will allow everyone who has the talent to create and distribute free or paid (copy protected) campaigns. We'll tell you about how it's done in coming Developer Diaries.

In other news, IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover players will be delighted to learn 1C Game Studios has reached an agreement in principle to cooperate with Team Fusion on future commercial development of IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover. This includes giving Team Fusion access to the Cliffs of Dover source code so they may continue their work to fix and improve Cliffs of Dover and build commercial add-ons for the base title. Such cooperation was made possible only recently as full ownership rights to Cliffs of Dover was returned to 1C Company after many years. We can now allow Team Fusion to continue their work more comfortably and help turn Cliffs of Dover into the product is was intended to be. 1C Game Studios recognizes the hard work and passion that Team Fusion has exhibited in improving Cliffs of Dover and we welcome their continued dedication to the product. You can read the official announcement here.

  24. Warning: New P3D (3.4 hotfix 1) NOT yet TacPack compatible!

    By Tom_Weiss, 11/12/2016

Lockheed Martin has just released a new hotfix for P3D 3.4 (3.4.14.18870 to be exact). Do NOT upgrade or you will lose TacPack compatibility. This will happen EVERY TIME a new version of P3D is released.

VRS will release a compatibility patch as soon as possible, however this will take a few days. Again, do NOT update P3D until you have confirmed that we have a 3.4.14.18870 compatible version out.

    • DCS World 2.0 released
      By: Scotsman · 08/28/2016
We've waited 10 odd years for this, IMHO it was good money well spent, we will get updates, we can make our own scenarios. and the cost of getting to Las Vegas, is a bit steeper, need to take a reality pill. The aircraft are far superior in general to the generic FSX, and I for one will be putting my money with this lot...and I'm  Scotsman.. lol
    • DCS World 2.0 released
      By: Marky78 · 08/15/2016
Shame it costs about £40/$50 for a training area map terrain just to try this out. Pretty steep if you ask me considering you also pay for aircraft as well and they aren't cheap either.
    • P3D EF2000 preview
      By: Tom_Weiss · 03/10/2016
It would be great if he did it - he just started making payware add ons, so I guess it will be a long while before he seriously considers doing anything else than FSX-P3D, and that market is much bigger than DCS and he can continue to be independent if he stays in it.

It's great but I don't think it'll even be needed to make this DCS compatible since I believe there already is a Eurofighter Typhoon under development. I wonder when that will be out though :/
    • Falcon 4 released on STEAM
      By: Tom_Weiss · 02/11/2016
no - the original one BMS seems to be in contact with the new owner, maybe ... who know, we might see something unexpected taking place, BMS as an official Falcon 4 mod ?
