Not a bad year for us , we are close to getting 6 Million page hits in 2009 , membership grew steadily to over Sixty thousand and we got past 1,500 uploads. Thanks to Mark, our webmaster, we finally managed to upgrade our Forums and Downloads code . Once again mid-year we survived what seems to be a 'mandatory' yearly Sever meltdown, an event which we hope to skip next year.
We started 2009 posting on the transformation of the MiG-29A into the MiG-29K, then wrote about the Beta release of Windows 7. Ironhand posted a quick review of FSX FEX and REX ( it is a pity that Vimeo deleted the Videos ) and soon after we learned of A2A new P-47 add on, in a fit of penny pinching which no doubt endeared them to the huge FSX community, Microsoft closed down Ace Studios, included the entire FSX development team ... life goes on and we made our first ever review of an FSX model, of the Wyvern.
In March some nice photos of the Kuznetsov were posted, Rise of Flight - a WWI flight sim if you don’t know it, showed its impressive effects and graphics and the new LO Flanker model was released . Ruggbutt reviewed the Buttkicker, a must have for those that crave realism, we did the Carrier Quals on a Yankee Air Pirate 2 Aircraft Carrier and were quite impressed with it.
In April we had the release of Black Shark in another form other than download and Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam was released by Thirdwire, ORBX Coff’s Harbor for FSX was reviewed showing what is possible to do when you have the talent and motivation, we liked it so much that soon after we reviewed another ORBX airport : Aeropelican. Tigrou released the Gripen (which I still keep misspelling as Grippen …) and we tested Windows 7 with Black Shark with no problems.

June ... June saw the release by Javier Fernandez of his beautiful Nimitz FSX add on as well as of the T-45C and F-14D models by Dino Cattaneo, so finally we could enjoy Carrier Ops in FSX. Later in the year realistic HUD was also added as well as Carrier AI and all of it free - you can’t ask more than that. Hawg released his LOFC Nevada Terrain Mod, a terrain that we will see included in the upcoming DCS A-10C.
In July a couple more FSX reviews were done, including a Cessna Mustang review written by Zorrin , one of the few FSX add ons created with the support of the Manufacturer.
Updates to the Flanker (v1.5) and Gripen (v1.2) were uploaded in August – DHC-6 and Dillingham FSX were reviewed and later in that month Ruggbutt got his hands on the Logitech G940, great review and we all envy him for that opportunity, did he return it to Logitech after doing that review? I sure hope not…
The rest of the year can still be read on our front page : Ironhand started releasing his great FSX Sceneries, we reviewed A2A's P-40 and P-47 add ons for FSX and Greg Morris posted a review of the L-39, the first of many reviews we hope he'll write.
It is hard to single out any Mod made by our community , some 350 were uploaded this year, I encourage you to browse our library, there is outstanding work there that truly enhances the experience of flying LO and DCS and FSX.
We can’t fail to mention that Eagle Dynamics finally decided to do something about that patch for Lock On FC 1.1 – after years of declining to do it due to other pressing matters and priorities, we were told that they won’t do it after all. Instead a new DCS LO v2 will be released early next year, allowing LO flyables to be integrated in the DCS series.
DCS Black Shark was patched to v1.01 with a second patch imminent and progress on the A-10C seems to be steady, Eagle Dyn. producer Matt Wagner released just a few days ago screenshots of the A-10C model and its cockpit, as always Eagle Dynamics raised the bar in terms of quality and technical achievement.
That is all, we hope to see you all here next year,
the LockOnFiles team
