Eagle Dynamics producer, Matt Wagner announced today that user created content will from now on be available for sale. That is an interesting idea which could result in developers starting to create content and selling to us very much like they do in the Microsoft Flight Simulator world as well as having user-made mods being made available for a fee.

*Now in the User Files section on the DCS page, you have the option to filter between All, Free, and Paid For files. The Paid For content allows third party developers to sell their work from the DCS web site.

Maybe even we at LockOnFiles could start charging a dollar per download

OK ... I am just kidding! :D

We invite you to vote in our poll - Would you be willing to pay for User-created Content ...?
What is your opinion of DCS: P-51D and are you happy with this choice??

The problem with payware is that this simulator does not support it. In order to have an effective payware product you would need to configure your own activation software. Microsoft Flight Simulator supports those kinds of addons, LockOn I believe does not. It would require added coding into the execution of the program and doing that can easily break the game making it unable to launch. But, however I could be wrong. Adding the activation software COULD be added into the execution of the program but that would be the first problem. The second and bigger problem would be getting all the files to work in conjunction with each other. It would be like installing multiple mods with Modman. You can only install one main mod and installing more than one would overwrite most of the critical files the prior mod already put into place. It just would not work. FSX on the other-hand is set up very differently for third-party modification support. So there for, I don't see real payware add-ons coming to LockOn or DCS series anytime soon.

my yes for paid user content is qualified: It would have to be really high quality stuff, like A2A, RAZBAM, IRIS and VRS are to FSX.

also, I can't help but laugh at this.

They're called Missiles not Hittles.

That is all good and funny but I certainly disagree with the bagging on ED choosing to make American aircraft. You can obviously tell the person who made that would prefer more foreign aircraft. Kinda ironic though since the uploaders account name is "FA18Growler". I got news for that person though. The American gaming market is bigger than in any other country and American aircraft are more appealing to the public. I think ED has begun to realize their mistakes and are trying to correct them. First it was the Su-27 Flanker in Flanker and Flanker 2.0/2.5, then the Su-25 and Su-25t in LockOn, then it was the Ka-50 and Ka-52. Now it is the A-10C, the coming P-51D, and what I personally believe, an F-15E to follow. As time progresses and the more the market grows, I think ED sees what the majority of the community is interested in and that is modern American fighter aircraft since half of the entire LO/DCS community is from the US including myself.

I'm all for an American fast mover, preferably Carrier capable. It's kind of the only thing I've been wanting out of ED for three years. I just like Der Untergang parodies. :icon_razz:

and the only way for it to remain free is if people go back donating to help it remain free - we are free only because a few including me have picked up the bulk of the tab.

Our community has started to take things for granted, I would like to see a few mods with a price tag attached to it so that our community would start appreciating the work done by the modders that is being released for free.

have a look here

http://community.inv...ower.com/files/

our website code is IPB - and many mods developed by that community that we use are now payware, and some like the Video, Links, News and Donate Block were always payware IPB Mods.

Well, I am looking hard at getting into FSX and have it loaded now and looking for help to get it set up. The one thing I noticed is that if I want it to look good etc. I have to shell out more money. In my case starting from scratch would be about $140. These are 3rd party add ons. So better think for a few minutes before answering the poll. Put lockon(DCS) together with 3rd party add ons means one thing big big bucks.

Thanks to all the modders who offer their hard work for free. Much appreciated!!

Third party payware sux IMHO. It's typical that ED is getting into this, as they are getting a cut. They're becoming more and more mercenary. Which brings me to the WWII a/c in the Crimea. Really? F'ing 瞎說八道-. 瞎說八道- as Matt Wagner at the Blue Oyster Bar. Anything for a buck and now we're going to pay for patches (FC3). Nice.........not.
