still have to try it on a skin with no camouflage to see if the template works with it as well - so far, so good :)

Weathering the DCS P-51D Mustang

LOF
On and off I remade the original template for the DCS P-51D Mustang - which is perhaps one of the most difficult to do thanks in no small measure to the fact that it comes in 4 parts, so I had to retrace the steps I took in making (so far) 49 skins for it.

There is weathered and there is worn out - this is mostly weathered with a bit of worn out, I add...

P3D V2.2 Clouds and FPS

Posted by Tom_Weiss , 29 April 2014 - - - - - - · 794 views
P3D v2.2
I managed to fly a few days ago and today again in bad weather with a lot of clouds, using OpusFX or Active Sky Evoloution to provide the weather, FPS dropped abysmally from 40 FPS to nothing, by nothing I mean 3-4 FPS.

Of course that is unacceptable and I started by removing SweetFX to see if that was the problem, it wasn't, the dense cloud coverage do...

P3D v2.2 + REX 4 - Texture Direct

P3D v2.2
I switched to REX 4 - Texture Direct to try fixing the lack of wave effect, unfortunately it did not do much, as one of REX's team itself told me in their forum, P3D is a 'work in progress' ... true.

I also started tweaking more SweetFX and contrast and sharpness looks better (to me) , here is a short video:

Prepar3D v2.2
you can see by yourself :D ;)

I am improving it step by step, next will be to replace REX Essential textures with REX4 TEXTURE Direct, this one is still with REX Essential and using OPUSFX as weather, SweetFX set as it comes with the installer.

Prepar3D v2.2
A week without FSX ... that is a first since 2008 ! The measure of how good a sim is, IMO, is how many of those 'wow' moments it gives you, by that measure, v2.2 is definitively the way to go, I doubt I'll go back to FSX.

The wonderful thing is, P3D is FSX Mk2, finally we are getting the updates we need, I could not be more happy :)

Here is a test fl...

Prepar3D v2.2 is great pt2

Prepar3D v2.2
Finally after a few days, back into P3D flying, really a very very enjoyable experience, now that I am getting more used to it, I am managing to make it look more like FSX.

My main gripe was the lack of fog in the distance, I think I managed to set it up in a way that it displays that effect, mostly by reducing the visibility distance.

I updated REX t...

Prepar3D
v2.2 great , it instantly won me over, visually it feels better than FSX already - I have to fly it a lot more to say that it is a replacement for FSX, but it looks like P3D is going to be awesome for all those that love FSX.

(OPUSFX for weather, REX Essential + Overdrive and several A2A add ons, I only tested the P-40 so far)
