Su 27 Intercept: An FC3 Instant Action Mission

23 May 2015
Posted by Ironhand In: LockOnFiles Portal Articles

The mission itself is short, simple, and not overly difficult mission. It has you and your wingman challenged by several aircraft groups. Although you don't realize it when you start "Su-27 Intercept" for the first time, fuel management is critical if you don't also want to practice deadstick landings. I nearly got to have that practice.

Team 7G posted this new video of their flight sim - no word yet as to when we can expect it to be released, but since no promises were made, all we can do is hope that this small team can finish it still this year.

Shahdoh's Mustang Racing Series: Maykop 8 official results

23 Jun 2015
Posted by Shahdoh In: LockOnFiles Portal Articles

Had a few technical glitches at the start and with the Twitch recording, but still, overall, great day of racing. Frippe is finishing the series strong with his 2nd win in a row, vaulting him into 3rd place in the points. Mick has almost completely locked up the 1st place but there is still enough points left in the final race that it he can not relax to much either.

Again, congrats Frippe! Winner of the DCS: MiG-21bis provided by Hitman, in association with Lock On Files

Again, thanks to everyone involved to make this series such a success:

Wrecking Crew Projects

10 Jun 2015
Posted by WreckingCrew In: LockOnFiles Portal Articles

Hi folks,

Thank you, Tom, for the nice invite to post a notice about my new Wrecking Crew Projects site for DCS World missions and editing resources.  Over thirty missions are available for free download.  A couple of these missions hark back to my LOMAC days -- coop Nuke Plant and Bay Of Hogs.  The Hosta Bridge mission came from fun LOMAC times looping F-15Cs under the big bridge; now there's a bit more challenge to it with H2H.

Visit my Hollo Pointe server where you can play these DCS World missions, and the new ones under development.  There are usually a variety of aircraft to choose from, and many missions include Combined Arms.

On my Projects site, there is a five-mission campaign.  Many missions include FC3 aircraft.  The missions were developed for multiplayer, and will reload upon completion when hosted on a server.  You can certainly play them single player to hone your skills.  If you are interested in mission design then open the missions up in the Mission Editor and look under the hood.

Enjoy!

complete DCS newsletter link:

DCS World 2 Status

It seems that despite the developer's best efforts, we are unlikely to see it released any time soon as the issues yet to be addressed are substantial.

Nevada Map

Can be yours for US$39,99 when it is released, the developer posted that "our plan is to still make this map available for free to those that purchased" ... the A-10C in beta prior to 21 February 2011, it is important to understand that the developer may end up charging everyone for it.

DCS WWII

The Spitfire has edged past the P-47D and should be released first, no release date was given.

MiG-29 for Flaming Cliffs 3

the only FC3 flyable not yet updated seems to be nearing completion - new, high-resolution 6 DOF cockpit and a new external model and it is a free update for FC3 owners.

(buy FC3 with a nice 60% discount here:http://store.steampo...com/app/249320/)

DCS: L-39 Albatros

Good progress is being made

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet

Last but not the least important is news about the DCS Hornet : "Work continues on the building the Hornet cockpit and air-to-surface radar technology. Most of the recent cockpit work has involved texturing and animation of cockpit elements."

Jet Thunder: Lead developer Steven Dobbs passed away 23 May 2015

30 May 2015
Posted by golfsierra2 In: LockOnFiles Portal Articles
Dante of the Jet Thunder developers team posted this sad news:

"It is with deep sadness that I inform that our beloved friend and lead developer, Steven Dobbs, passed away this last Saturday, victim of a terminal cancer. He was battling this illness for a long time, which caused the silence and distance to projects such as this one, since he had a much larger priority at hand.

However, he instructed us to move forward regardless of his ultimate fate, and we will do so, to keep his memory and to fulfill his wish.

Steven will be greatly missed."

The developers of DCSW posted some updates about where they stand in developing new add ons as well as DCSW v2/Edge:

- DCS World 2 and Edge not yet near a public release, in alpha or otherwise, work continues. A Video link was provided :

http://www.lockonfil...-world-2-style/

- DCS: Nevada Test and Training Map is not yet finished - but is moving closer to Alpha.

- DCS: P-47D Thunderbolt & Spitfire work continues but "there is nothing new to show this month" and no news at all on the Normandy map.

- DCS: F/A-18C Hornet Air to Ground radar work continues.

- DCS: Hormuz Map "our map team is making steady progress on the Strait of Hormuz Map- no release date yet.

- DCS: L-39 Albatros "The next aircraft module to be released by Eagle Dynamics will be the L-39 Albatros"

To sum it up - new modules and maps are still being worked on and the developer of DCSW does not have yet any information as to when they will be released, certainly not before the next newsletter.

LockOnFiles.com

As we get near our 10th anniversary, I wanted to see were we are in terms of web traffic, SimilarWeb has a free service that does just that. I know that web traffic goes up and down and I haven´t bothered with it for the past year or so, this time it was a pleasant read.

According to our own front page page hit tracker we average 1.3 - 1.7  million page hits a month, that is only one statistic that does not show much more than how many pages are being browsed, SimilarWeb gives a more interesting perspective : http://www.similarwe...lockonfiles.com

LOF.png

What wasn't a surprise is that we no longer follow the developer of DCSW traffic, that has been true since 2007 when we parted our ways : http://www.similarwe...atsimulator.com

EAGLE.png

I noticed that we get no traffic from the developers of DCSW , congratulations to them for a job well done :D

not being tied to any developer sales popularity has been our goal for many years - our aim has always been to be an independent community website, a goal that was been proven right over the years.

Valve Nixes Paid Skyrim Mods After Huge Backlash

28 Apr 2015
Posted by Tom_Weiss In: LockOnFiles Portal Articles

Never having played Skirim due to lack of time, still this move by Steam is a welcome one. Paid mod making is something very contentious and although no one, including me would mind earning some money from my work, nevertheless , paid mods have a huge impact in the number of mod makers and the quantity of mods released.

Last week, Valve announced that creators of game mods would be able to sell their creations on its Steam service. It didn’t expect the huge backlash, from players and modders alike. On Monday, it pulled down the feature entirely.

“The Steam Workshop has always been a great place for sharing mods, maps, and all kinds of items that you’ve created,” the original announcement read. “Now it’s also a great place for selling those creations.”

Fast forward to this week: “We understand our own game’s communities pretty well, but stepping into an established, years old modding community in Skyrim was probably not the right place to start iterating,” Valve wrote. “We think this made us miss the mark pretty badly, even though we believe there’s a useful feature somewhere here.”

“Even though we had the best intentions, the feedback has been clear—this is not a feature you want,” wrote Bethesda on its blog.

http://www.wired.com...yrim-paid-mods/

and in case anyone has any doubts who would profit the most from paid mod making :

Those reasons are manifold. Many think that the profit-sharing model is unfair to modders. In the case of Skyrim, 75 percent of the profit from a mod’s sale was split between Valve and Bethesda, with only 25 percent making its way to the mod creator’s pocket.

Valve to allow Mod Makers to sell on Steam

25 Apr 2015
Posted by Tom_Weiss In: LockOnFiles Portal Articles

As you all know, our website exists to support our Community and its Mod makers - and we have been doing it these past ten years.

When we started , Lock On Modern Air Combat was the focus of our interest. Many things changed since then , Mod making is not what it used to be and our focus diversified to include FSX-P3D and DCS.

Now something quite big took place - these news while not directly concerning our community can, in time, have far reaching consequences for our hobby.

http://www.pcgamer.c...tions-on-steam/

Valve has implemented a major change to the Steam Workshop that gives modders the option to sell their creations directly to gamers in an open, unregulated market.

"We think this is a great opportunity to help support the incredible creative work being done by mod makers in the Steam Workshop," said Valve's Tom Bui in a statement. "User generated content is an increasingly significant component of many games, and opening new avenues to help financially support those contributors via Steam Workshop will help drive the level of UGC to new heights
