Guests & Downloads

Posted by Tom_Weiss In: Messages (Guest)

As a trial,  we are allowing Guests to download any files - the wait period to download a file is 120 seconds and the max download speed of 30kb/s, you can download one file at a time.

yes, downloading at such speeds is boring.

Creating an account and browsing logged avoids any such restrictions .

Accounts awaiting to be validated can download at 300kb/s while they wait.

The reason why we like people to browse logged in is to avoid overloading our server.

I can't log in or create an account FYI

10 May 2014
Posted by Tom_Weiss In: Messages (Guest)

If you are having problems creating an account here - the problem is not on our end, it is your Internet Provider's fault.

It is a bother but we need to filer accounts for Spam , otherwise we would get flooded by it. If you can't create an account, your IP may be being flagged as having been used by a spammer, check your IP here:

http://www.whatismyip.com/

http://www.stopforumspam.com/

if it is, you will be having difficulties registering not only here but elsewhere as well , request a change of IP.

many countries in Asia, Poland and the Czech Republic  tend to block validating emails  - we know that and after a short while we ourselves validate those accounts.

We provide several means to create an account - if all fails : open a Gmail account and use it to log in.

Twitter, Facebook, Steam all have their problems, if you can't use them to log in and can't create an account : open a Gmail account and use it to log in.

After creating a new account you should immediately receive a validating e-mail, if you did not receive any  : we run a Spam check on those accounts and then we validate those that are OK . This is usually done in less than 24 hours, you will know that your account is OK when you don't see any messages like this one in our front page.

( and don't use disposable email accounts, don't use only numbers as an username : that is considered as SPAM and is a sure way to get your IP flagged as SPAM. We don't use your email for anything else then for validating an account )

And if you have an account, browse logged in.

Shahdoh’s DCS World Mustang Racing Series - Prizes announced

07 Jan 2015
Posted by Hitman In: LockOnFiles Portal Articles

This document will layout the rules and guidelines of this racing series which will be flown using DCS World’s TF-51D Mustang using full realism settings. This aircraft was chosen for the series for numerous reasons. 1st off, it is available for free to everyone, it has professional level flight modeling (DCS’s highest level) and it also takes knowledge and skill to make the Mustang perform at its best. It is not just a throw the throttles full forward and yank and bank aircraft, it is also susceptible to engine abuse so care must be taken when pushing it to its limits.

Race Courseshttp://www.virtual-aerobatics.com/air-racing/tracks/

The series will consist of 6 race courses flown over a 6 month period of time (1 per month). 3 of the race courses are recreations of Red Bull courses, you may already have experienced these on the Virtual Aerobatics server.

Batumi – designed off the 2010 New York course
Abu Dhabi – 2014 course
Tbilisi – 2008 course
These will be flown in head to head competition (pairs) in a full double elimination tournament. Due to time constraints, qualifying will be held prior to race day and the top 12 will fill the brackets. The brackets are scheduled to be ran 1 every 10 minutes.

The other 3 race courses will be mass starts of up to 12 aircraft, again, qualifying for those positions will be held prior to race day. 2 of these will be multiple lap, go fast, turn left Reno style racing with pace plane starts. The 3rd will be a nice long dash through the canyons, also with pace plane start.

Gudauta Boomerang – 5.25 Laps
Gudauta Loop – 114 mile canyon run
Maykop 8 – 10 Laps around a figure 8 patterned course

Points per race will be distributed as follows:

1st = 10
2nd = 7
3rd = 5
4th = 3
5th = 2
All other racers (whether they qualified for that days race or not) will be awarded 1 point for participation if they are present (on the Virtual Aerobatics TeamSpeak) on race day.

Aircraft Tracking

Lua scripting will handle the timing and penalties on the course and is accurate to 100th of a second. All trigger areas (where the timing is performed) are round circles that are marked by various pylons. Only in game items are used, so depending on location, this might be anything from oil rigs to tv antennas. Whichever is used, will be consistent for that particular race. The courses have 2 altitude limits. 1 for the whole course, fly higher than that set altitude and you will be disqualified. The other is altitude limit set for the gates themselves. Fly higher then the set gate altitude (only up to 2 times that alt) will incur a penalty, same as if you missed the gate. The difference is you can miss as many gate altitude checks and continue to race, but completely miss more than 3 gates will disqualify you from the race. Time penalties for missing a gate or missing the altitude at a gate will vary per race course. Also, race judges will be watching for purposeful missing of gates to gain time advantages. Such actions will result in immediate disqualification for that race.

Accidents

Avoidance of collisions is the responsibility of the aircraft to the rear or overtaking aircraft. Aircraft in front, or being overtaken, must hold their race lines. If the front aircraft (or if being passed) swerves to block the aircraft doing the passing, will be charged with the incident and lose their position to that aircraft. If such action does not result in an accident, race judges can add an additional gate penalty to the pilot at the end of the race.

If an incident occurs, those involved, their positions will be locked for that moment, with the guilty pilot placing behind the others.

Elimination races, guilty pilot is charged with the loss. Both pilots will receive no time for the course.

Mass start races, places will be locked until other pilots still flying pass those positions. No times can be awarded of course.

Lags/warping

Being the internet, warps will happen. To combat this, all contestants will use the recommended DCS network speed settings of ADSL 2048. A pilot who is obviously warping prior to racing will be given 1 chance to clean up the connection or be disqualified from the race. If a warp happens during the 1st half of a race that results in a collision, 1 restart per race will be allowed (once per bracket race or 1 mass restart). If collision due to warp happens in the 2nd half of the race, crashed pilot positions will be locked per above incident rules.

Weather

Weather (temperatures, winds and cloud cover) on race days will be set according to real weather reports for that day from that location, kept within reason. Excessive values that would prevent racing normally will be toned down to allow racing to occur.

Schedule

The first race of the season will be held on the 15th of February during the Virtual Aerobatics 2nd Anniversary Air Show. The remaining race days will be held on the 3rd Sunday of the month. The racing will begin at 5PM GMT(the start time for the race at the VA show subject to change for airshow scheduling) and will be streamed live on Twitch. The server will be locked with a password on race day to prevent interruptions. File integrity checks will also ensure aircraft performance remains as DCS intended.

The server will remain up without password for practice and or qualifying. Each pilot that has registered must select a livery that will be theirs alone. Scripting will be used to ensure only that person can log in to that livery. There will be non-reserved aircraft on the server for others to try their hand at racing too.

Qualifying

Qualifying will be open for 1 whole week prior to race day and must be done on the server. You can attempt to qualify as many times as you like, but can only submit a time once. Just take a screenshot of the moment when the finish time displays or screenshot the radio report for that course. I will be confirming that the times came from the server.

Registration

Anyone can register for the series to compete at any time. Competitors may be removed if they prove to be disruptive to the series for any reason. If there is a complaint, bring it up calmly and constructively. We want to see clean racing and not a crash fest.

To Register, please provide the following

(submit to the thread this was found on or PM Shahdoh at the Virtual Aerobatics Forums)

Pilot Name:

Mustang Livery: (if custom, please provide link to where it can be found)

Country:

Follow link to see list of current entries: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/…tdGlPNmc#gid=2

Please note, these skins (Miss America Too and Rockwell International) are not available as they are my skins that I will be using as my demonstration aircraft and pace plane. Otherwise, first come, first serve for any other skin.

Thank you for your interest and hope to see you at the races!

OPUSFSI Review

12 Dec 2014
Posted by Tom_Weiss In: LockOnFiles Portal Articles

For those that are new to it or never bothered with it, P3D/FSX is about the experience of flying and weather is a big part in this.  OPUSFSI aims to provide realistic weather and I reviewed it to find if does that.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition update released

10 Jan 2015
Posted by Tom_Weiss In: LockOnFiles Portal Articles

We are pleased to announce that we released a new update this afternoon (Monday 12th January 2015). Full update notes can be found here (http://steamcommunit...54302093637525/)

This update resolves several issues reported to us by the community and will be automatically applied to your software via the Steam platform. If the update does not start automatically please restart your Steam client.

Below is the full list of changes and fixes made in this update:

• Networking: Resolved - potential crash bug when decoding Steam host tag data.
• Error Reporting: Resolved - error message if the software failed to load the language.dll so that it shows the name of the actual dll it is trying to load.
• Learning Centre: Resolved - when selecting a mission from the Learning Centre, you would be told that the mission script failed to load and would be disabled.
• Learning Centre: Changed - the Learning Centre still referenced a GameSpy logo - now replaced with Steam logo.
• Graphics: Improved vertex and index buffer handling defaults and a few other things to give up to 10% framerate improvement (as long as vsync is not enabled/forced).
• Graphics: Change - Enable trilinear mipmap filtering by default.
• Graphics: Resolved - If the Special Effects setting was set to HIGH, some special effects like external lights, landing/water effects would not work.
• Graphics: Changed default value for max per-frame texture uploads to decrease time for high quality terrain textures to appear.
• Settings: Resolved - HIGHMEMFIX was enabled by default but could very rarely be disabled at load time.
• For new installs, we now provide default versions of dll.xml and exe.xml files to improve compatibility with existing add-ons.

Please note: Existing owners of FSX:SE will not get the dll.xml and exe.xml files automatically. We did not want to change them because we know that a lot of players have already modified them. If you would like the new versions of these files all you have to do is verify your files through Steam.

We are continuing to monitor your feedback on FSX: Steam Edition and would like to thank the community for taking the time to report these and other issues. We know that we have not fixed all of the reported issues, but we continue to work to improve the product in the coming weeks.

Having Fun with the Su-27 Flanker

15 Dec 2014
Posted by Ironhand In: LockOnFiles Portal Articles

Spent an enjoyable few minutes this morning with DCS's Su-27. Not exactly an air show routine--not nearly good enough for that. Just having fun. I love the way this bird can climb and turn. I watched the replay from outside the cockpit and decided to see what it'd look like as a video. From the results I'd say I have some experimenting to do with video formats. Not at all smooth but decided to publish, anyway. So, for anyone interested, it's on the Flankertraining YouTube channel.

And here, of course:

Hope you enjoy it.
